It's always good to be able to tell your face from your...ah, *other* end, and it's equally important to be able to differentiate an output from an input. On a guitar, the sound goes out, so it's an output jack. End of story. Anyone who calls it an input jack is wrong and should be corrected. What happens when your amp or effects pedal or mixer needs repair and you say "please fix the input jack", when it's really the output jack that is defective? Won't you look like a fool!
People ass oci ate the guitar jack with "input" because that's where you plug "in" the cable. So if your input is your mouth cuz you put food into it therefore the same should apply to the guitar. But on the guitar, that's where sound comes out so it is really the output jack. Funny how nobody mistakes where food comes out the human body as the input and put a jack in there, or do they? hmmm
